Tonight my son got a haircut with my hairdresser. It wasn’t too bad really, a little whining, but my hairdresser is the best. Of course, it isn’t every day your parents and grandparents all show up to watch you get a simple haircut.

I laughed to myself as my hairdreser got to work. My mom is using clips to imitate sharks, my dad is talking to him about the haircut he got today, I am using a locked grip to hold my son still, and my husband is standing there with a huge grin. This much fuss over a haircut.

My mother-in-law attempted the last cut. He made her cry when he fussed. Haircut over after a few locks gone.

In anticipation of the haircut, my mom came down this morning and rescued our son from daycare. My dad took off work early and drove the 30 minutes to our house so he could wake our son from his nap and play before the haircut. They are very good buddies.

But that’s the way my son’s life goes. Everything he does is monumental to our family. Going to the farm, making pancakes, taking a bath…he always has an audience. A very captive audience.

This kid is so loved it’s almost hysterical. I think sometimes he senses this and plays a bit to his audience, but never too much. I just count my lucky stars we have such a terrific family. They are all so busy, and between the two of us we have nine siblings. Yet everyone makes time for our son. I almost feel guilty sometimes because everyone dotes on him so much. I know that our family is a very large part of my son’s environment, and very much the reason he is such a great kid. He, and we, love them all very much.
