Many of us plan on taking our children back for a home land tour, while others plan on taking their child back to add a sibling to their family. Whatever the reason, your child must travel on a US Passport for part of the travel and their Kazakhstan passport for the remainder of the travel. We were curious how we would go about updating our children’s Kazakhstan passports – so I called and below is the information that I obtained and thought I’d share with all of you…..

Send copies of old passport where photo & stamps of Kazakhstan authorities are
Copies of new certificate of birth
Copies of certificate of adoption
1st page of court degree
Money order – $70.00 for each passport
4 passport copies – do not cut – we will cut them
Copy of your passport (spouse if applicable)
Written statement asking consular section to renew passport for your children
Is this new? We took our Kazak daughter back when we did another adoption in 2001 and she traveled the entire time on her US passport only. We didn’t have any trouble getting visas, etc, for her. It was a good trip for her.
When we inquired – this is what we were told to do by the Kazakh Embassy in the USA.

Holly, you probably can travel into Kaz on your American passport but I have also read that the Kazakh authorities find it impolite/odd if you do that. Your child has a Kaz passport so why go to the trouble of applying and paying for a visa in a foreign (American) passport. When we retun to Kaz on holiday with our children in 2010 we plan to let them enter & leave on Kaz passports. Cheers Ashley
PS Cyndi did they give a time frame on renewal?
No – unfortantely I didn’t inquire about the time frame for processing it. We hope to travel back for an in country homeland tour type of visit also.
