It is a good idea for all prospective adoptive parents to read the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs web site. It can be found at:

UCIS for immigration forms and fees (fingerprinting):

Approximately 3 to 4 weeks after you have been fingerprinted, you may call the FBI fingerprint office in West Virginia to check on the status of your fingerprints (304) 625-5590. They will be specific with you on the phone as to what information they need to check your fingerprint status.
There is a service called "VitalChek" that can obtain your Vital Records for you. They are a bit expensive, but they get the job done. Their number is: 1-800-255-2414 and their webpage address is: http://www.vitalchek.com Most of the time, they will only get the Vital Record, not the State Seal. You may still have to send the document back to the Secretary of State's office for the State Seal.
Social Security Office
Mail or bring the application and evidence in person to your local Social Security office. You can find that office at http://www.ssa.gov/locator/ Your documents will be returned to you.
