Building on the last post, one of our readers posed some good questions, so we will keep going on this…

How old is considered an older child adoption? Babies are less than two, toddlers 2-4?

There isn’t a hard and fast rule, but basically children under two are considered “infants.” We were told by the orphanage director that once children reach over 2, they start becoming harder to place. At age 5, most children are moved to the older children home where they are rarely considered for adoption.

Who keeps track of the ” most requested ” age or gender or sibling group?

Again, there is no governmental agency or otherwise that tracks this, but pretty much every agency and adoptive parent out there will tell you the most requested group is caucasian, infant girls. There are many, many boys waiting to be adopted, infant on up. Sibling groups are also difficult to place, especially if they are older children.

Is the waiting list longer for the 3-5 age range dependent on the agency?

There usually aren’t as many kids in this age range available, but there are also not many parents requesting this range. Basically, it’s just what children happen to be available in the regions the agency works in. There is really no way to know ahead of time. You have to find parents who have adopted that age from an agency and see what their experience was. You can post on adoption.com and in the Yahoo groups to find parents who have adopted that age range, and find out what agency they used, and what their experience was like.

Who keeps track of the agencies that refer the healthiest children? Would’nt www.orphandr.com know which agency refers the healthiest kids? Where could I find out?

I don’t know if orphandoctor keeps a list, and if they did, it wouldn’t be representative of all the agencies or kids adopted because there are many other international doctors reviewing files these days. Again, the best way to determine this is through overall agency reputation. You can also research by region. For example, we adopted from Kyzylorda, and we found the medical information to be accurate, except some overblown generic diagnosis that all the kids were assigned. If you are interested in a particular region, post a question about that region and find some parents who have adopted.

I do hope you are able to find these children! Please feel free to post again if you have more questions.
