Did you know the other names that Astana is or was known by? Aqmola, Akmola and Tselinograd are the ones listed on Susan’s site at http://kazakhadoptivefamilies.com/cities/astana.html

Astana

I would love to hear from families who have adopted from Astana to see if they ever visit the Duman Entertainment Center – it looks awesome on its website:
http://www.duman.kz/eng/index.html
The Children’s City sounds like a typical play area in some amusement parks or play areas located in the United States – with netting, tunnels, ball pits and trampoline! When we return to Kazakhstan with our children – we’ll have to be sure to stop in Astana to visit here. Duman also has a 3-D movie theatre, food court, aquarium and shops.

If you are adopting or visiting – you may wish to visit the airport’s home page at: http://www.astanaairport.kz/ – lots of useful information – including flight schedules.

For staying connected with your children’s birth city this is the group for you! Founded in February of 2003, Adopt Astana has 165 members currently and you can join if you have adopted or are in the process of adopting from this city: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Adopt_Astana_Kazakhstan/

The US Embassy is now located in Astana and their home page can be found: http://www.usembassy.kz/
If you’d like a direct link to the adoption area on this site – please visit: http://www.usembassy.kz/consular/adoptions.shtml

And also the Kazakh Embassy in Astana, Kazakhstan: http://www.kazakhembus.com/Astana.html
It has customs and traditions, music, and food & transitions through an American eye. A nice site to visit and learn about Astana and Kazakhstan in general.

For those of you who enjoy exploring parks – you may wish to visit The Korgalzhin National Park in Astana. If you’re a bird watcher, I hear you should bring your binoculars and camera to capture some birds we do not see here in the United States.

And believe it or not – if you do a search for ASTANA on e-Bay – you will find items specific to that city of Kazakhstan (t-shirts, cycling outfits). If you do a search for just Kazakhstan, you will find t-shirts, money (tenge), stamps and many other items that you can add to your children’s memory boxes.
